Local dimming is a technique used to enhance the contrast and black levels of an LCD display by controlling the backlighting behind specific areas of the screen. It involves dividing the backlight into different zones and dynamically adjusting the brightness of each zone based on the content being displayed.

With local dimming, when a specific part of the screen needs to display a darker image or black content, the LEDs (Light-Emitting Diodes) behind that area can be dimmed or turned off, resulting in deeper blacks and improved contrast.
