Which type of battery is used in hybrid cars today? Cobalt Dioxide, Nickel-metal hydride, or Lithium-ion are the most common types.

Nickel-metal hydride

This battery is widely used in hybrid cars and cellular phones. Originally used in aerospace applications, it has a long life span and reasonable specific energy and power capabilities. The lithium-ion and polymer batteries used in hybrid vehicles are largely safe for use. Nevertheless, lithium-ion and polymer batteries do have a similar lifespan and are not as reliable.
