Alumina (Al₂O₃) is an inorganic compound commonly found in nature in bauxite and is the main source of aluminum. It is an ionic crystal that can be ionized at high temperatures and is often used in the manufacture of refractory materials. It has the characteristics of high hardness, wear resistance and high temperature resistance, and is widely used in aerospace, electronic equipment, optical instruments and other fields. Alumina is also the raw material for the manufacture of aluminium metal, which is converted into aluminium by an electrolytic reduction process. Because of its good insulation and thermal conductivity, alumina is also used in ceramic materials, refractories and electronic components. It has strong chemical stability and is not easy to be eroded by acid and alkali.
