Water circulates continuously in the coils of a closed cooling tower; heat energy is absorbed by the walls of the coils, and then discharged via the fan situated at the top of the tower. When the temperature of circulating water within the coils rises to exceed the set temperature, the spray system is automatically activated. Water sprays onto the hot, damp coils and creates a thin film, absorbing the heat of the coils, and then evaporating into steam. This steam then flows away with the air, leaving behind water droplets that collect in the tower's collection tank before being recycled.

The coil-contained water circulation is a closed loop, with minimal consumption, and the spray water usage is low too.
