Working Principle of Induction Melting Furnace
Induction melting furnace works based on the electric and magnet induction principle. In this principle, electricity generates magnetism, and magnetism produces electricity; a resonance process occurs between the induction ring and the capacitor in the power supply cabinet. This then generates an alternating current, which in turn produces an alternating magnetic field. As the electrons in the metal material are exposed to the alternating field, they move in an alternating direction and generate eddy currents, which leads to the constant heating of the material until it reaches the metal melting point.
Thyristor Serial-connected Resonant Medium Frequency Induction Melting Furnace
Unlike the typical induction furnace, the thyristor serial-connected resonant medium frequency induction melting furnace utilizes a capacitor which is connected in series with the induction ring within the furnace. Additionally, the power supply cabinet is equipped with a thyristor, which cuts off the current at regular intervals; this helps to make the frequency of resonance identical to the self-resonance frequency produced by the induction ring. Furthermore, with a boost in the electromagnetic force, more eddy currents pass through the material within the furnace, resulting in the rapid temperature increase until it reaches the melting point.
Thyristor serial-connected electric furnaces are the most widely applied in the casting industry and present significant power saving advantages. With a power factor of over 0.95, they are among the lowest power consumption devices, and can save up to 20% more power than parallel-connected thyristors. Furthermore, due to their durability and safety features, they are suitable for use in various working environments. Additionally, thyristor serial-connected systems possess a fast smelting speed and low power consumption as well as a low failure rate and easy maintenance in the case of malfunctions. Finally, their power compensation devices and harmonic elimination devices are not necessary due to mature technology with no high harmonics and a maximum power factor of above 95%.
