Overview of Mechanical Switches

Mechanical switches are composed of several parts, including a housing, a spring, and a stem. When you press a key, the stem moves down, compressing the spring, and eventually makes contact with an electrical circuit to register a keystroke.

Types of Mechanical Switches

1. Tactile Switches:

   • Description: Provide a noticeable bump at the actuation point.
   • Example: Cherry MX Brown.
   • Use Case: Ideal for typists who want feedback without noise.

2. Clicky Switches:

   • Description: Emit a distinct click sound and have a tactile bump.
   • Example: Cherry MX Blue.
   • Use Case: Favored by typists who enjoy auditory feedback, but can be noisy in shared spaces.

3. Linear Switches:

   • Description: Smooth and consistent keystrokes with no tactile feedback or sound.
   • Example: Cherry MX Red.
   • Use Case: Preferred by gamers for fast and quiet key presses.
