It is mainly used to separate droplets with a diameter greater than 3 μm to 5 μm. When the gas with mist rises at a certain speed and passes through the filter screen in the middle of the grid, due to the inertia of the mist rising, the mist collides with the filament and adheres to the surface of the filament.
The further diffusion of the mist on the surface of the filament and the gravity settlement of the mist itself make the mist form larger droplets and flow along the filament to its intersection. Due to the wettability of the filament, the surface tension of the liquid, and the capillary action of the filament, the droplet becomes larger and larger until its own gravity exceeds the resultant force of the buoyancy of the rising gas and the surface tension of the liquid, and then it is separated and falls. As long as the operating gas speed and other conditions are selected properly after the gas passes through the wire mesh demister, its demister efficiency can reach more than 99%, and the purpose of completely removing mist can be achieved.
The demister pads work by coalescing smaller liquid droplets by obstructing their path. Obstruction of the path causes increased collisions among the liquid droplets. Most of these droplets stick together and form bigger droplets that are too heavy to rise with the gas stream. Thus the more significant liquid drops drop down in the pool of liquid below. The gas stream is not affected by the obstruction in the path and escapes through the top vapor outlet. A variety of geometries can achieve obstruction in the path of liquid droplets. Demister pad may be a mesh-type coalescer, vane pack, or other structure intended to aggregate the mist into droplets that are heavy enough to separate from the vapor stream.
