Mesh Pad Demister Introduction

The wire mesh demister is a gas-liquid separation device. The gas passes through the wire pad of the demister to remove the entrained mist. Vapor flow removal of entrained materials is critical in many process operations, and wire mesh demisters are suitable for any application. The principle of operation of a mist eliminator is based on the interception of entrained liquid droplets in the vapor stream by a large number of obstacles. This large number of barriers must provide the minimum removal system pressure drop.

Mesh Pad Demister Working Principle

The demister pads work by coalescing smaller liquid droplets by obstructing their path. Obstruction of the path causes increased collisions among the liquid droplets. Most of these droplets stick together and form bigger droplets that are too heavy to rise with the gas stream. Thus the more significant liquid drops drop down in the pool of liquid below. The gas stream is not affected by the obstruction in the path and escapes through the top vapor outlet. The obstruction in the path of liquid droplets can be achieved by a variety of geometries. Demister pad may be a mesh-type coalescer, vane pack, or other structure intended to aggregate the mist into droplets that are heavy enough to separate from the vapor stream.
