What is outrunner motor?
An outrunner brushless motor is a type of brushless motor used in various applications, such as RC aircraft, drones, and electric vehicles. Unlike an inrunner motor, which has its rotor inside the stator, an outrunner motor has its rotor on the outside of the stator.
The outrunner motor's rotor consists of a series of permanent magnet attached to the outer surface of a cylindrical shell. The stator is a stationary core with a series of wire-wrapped poles arranged in a circle around the rotor. When an electric current passes through the coils, it generates a magnetic field that interacts with the permanent magnets on the rotor, causing it to spin.
Application: Outrunner brushless motors are preferred in many applications because they offer higher torque and lower RPM compared to inrunner motors. This makes them suitable for driving larger propellers and providing more efficient power transmission to the load. Additionally, outrunner motors are easier to cool, as the outer shell provides a larger surface area for heat dissipation.
