1. Description of WT20 Thoriated Tungsten Electrode:
Thoriated tungsten electrode is the earliest rare earth tungsten electrode, and it is also the tungsten electrode with the best welding performance so far. Therefore, it has the highest market share of this type of tungsten electrode in the world. Radioactive contamination will occur in the process, so European and American countries restrict the production of this variety of electrodes, but because of its excellent welding performance, its use is not restricted.
Overall, the 2% thoriated tungsten electrode is a decent tungsten electrode with the lowest work function and performs well even at overload voltages. The performance of thoriated tungsten electrodes is superior to that of pure tungsten electrodes in many aspects. Thorium oxide provides about 20 percent higher current-carrying capacity than pure tungsten, generally has a longer service life, and helps prevent contamination during welding. With thoriated tungsten electrodes, arc starting is easier and the arc is more stable than pure tungsten electrodes or zirconium tungsten electrodes. Both Thorium Tungsten Electrode 1% (EWTh – 1) and Thorium Tungsten Electrode 2% (EWTh – 2) can be used for DCEN. They keep the tip sharpened during the welding process so that they can be used to weld steel pipes, usually without direct current, because it is difficult to keep the tip spherical without cracking, which is necessary for direct current.

4. Application of WT20 Thoriated Tungsten Electrode:
Thoriated tungsten electrodes are commonly used for DC negative electrodes or positive electrodes such as carbon, stainless steel, nickel alloys, and titanium alloys. They operate well, even at overloaded currents.

When using thoriated tungsten electrodes for AC welding, be fast and use caution so that the DC welding will react before the AC welding. The balls that are kneaded do not melt during AC welding, so the effect is not as good as the liquid balls.
