When forging nickel alloy forgings, you need to pay attention to the following key points:
- Control of forging temperature and deformation: The forging temperature range of high-temperature nickel-based alloys is relatively narrow, generally between 1050°C and 900°C. Temperatures that are too high or too low can cause surface cracks or other defects during the forging process. Therefore, the forging temperature and deformation amount need to be strictly controlled to avoid these problems.
- Multiple forgings and gentle operations: Due to the high deformation resistance of nickel alloys, multiple forgings and gentle operations are required to refine the grains and structure to improve the properties of the alloy. During the forging process, excessive deformation and heavy hammering should be avoided to avoid cracks or coarse and mixed crystals.
- Heat treatment: After forging is completed, the nickel-based alloy forgings usually need to be heat treated, such as annealing, normalizing, tempering, etc., to further improve their structure and performance. Heat treatment selection and process control are critical to guaranteeing the quality and performance of the final product.
- Cold working: Cold working can further improve the strength and hardness of nickel-based alloy forgings, but at the same time it will reduce its toughness. Therefore, special attention needs to be paid to the control of processing intensity and processing temperature during cold working to avoid adverse effects on material properties.
