The DeltaV Smart Switch can also be installed in a mixed system with the currently supported Cisco or Hirschmann switches, as desired.

The DeltaV Smart Switch is based on hardware produced by a recognized supplier of industrialgrade networking equipment. All switches are fanless and have redundant power connections with external alarm contacts. They are also available in high temperature, conformal coated versions for use in harsh environments.

Typical network implementation would use the VE6048 as a central switch located in a rack room where AC power is available with the VE6041 (or VE6042 or VE6043) as a field-mounted switch for controllers in fieldmounted locations. If required as part of the network architecture, multiple VE6048 switches can be interconnected using the gigabit ports to provide a network backbone to connect devices or other DeltaV switches.

The specifications and DeltaV ordering numbers below provide the information necessary to help design the DeltaV network and order the necessary equipment to implement the network. Note the ordering information in dark, multiline borders are extended specification devices, single line borders are standard specifications. Extended specifications are higher temperature, conformal coated switches with additional certifications as listed in the certification table at the end of the document.
