Correct use of blood oxygen probe:
1. Check whether the blood oxygen monitor is in good condition
2. Select the matching probe required by the patient
3. After confirming that the blood oxygen probe is connected, check whether the chip lights up.
4. If it lights up normally, tie the probe to the middle finger or index finger of the person being tested. Pay attention to the binding method (the LED
and PD must be aligned, and the binding must be firm to prevent light leakage)
If the blood oxygen probe is held too tightly, non-arterial pulses may be detected, creating venous pulses in the finger. Venous pulsations are also
caused by right-sided heart failure, tricuspid regurgitation (Schnapp and Cohen, 1990), and tourniquets of the blood pressure cuff over the probe.
Cardiac arrhythmias may result in highly inaccurate measurements, especially in the presence of significant apical/radial defects (Woodrow,
1999). Intravenous dyes used in diagnostic and hemodynamic testing may result in inaccurate, often lower oxygen saturation estimates (Jenson
et al, 1998). The effects of skin pigmentation, jaundice, or elevated bilirubin levels should also be considered.
According to the World Health Organization, to get the most accurate readings on a pulse oximeter, simply place the blood oxygen probe correctly, be sure to sit still and remove nail polish to avoid interfering with the pulse oximeter reading. A pulse oximeter is a small device that can easily and quickly measure your blood oxygen saturation, or the amount of oxygen in your blood. The probe or sensor of these devices looks like a plastic bag clip that can be placed on your fingertips, toes, or earlobes. A small screen on the probe shows an estimate of your blood oxygen levels in your extremities or other parts of your body.
So how to use a pulse oximeter correctly? CWT Technology HK Limited will tell you the usage steps in detail:
1. Make sure there is no nail polish or henna on your fingers.
2. Make sure your hands are at normal temperature and warm them if they feel cold.
3. Please rest and relax your body before wearing the pulse oximeter.
4. Place the pulse oximeter on your index or middle finger.
5. Place your hands on your chest near your heart and try to reduce hand movements
6. Keep the pulse oximeter on your finger for at least one minute until the reading stabilizes.
7. Record the highest reading that flashes on the oximeter after 5 seconds.
8. Make sure your fingers are snug and the probe is not too tight (which would restrict circulation) or too loose (which could fall off or allow other light to enter).
