12V DC 20 Amp 5 Pin Relay SPDT Withstanding Power 1W PCB Mount
What is a single pole double throw switch (SPDT)?
SPDT (Single Pole Double Throw) is a special switch structure. Unlike normal SPST (Single Pole Single Throw) switches, SPDT switches to control the operating states of two devices, which operate in opposite directions. For example, if an SPDT switch is connected to devise A and device B, device A will be on if the SPDT switch is off, and device B is off; on the contrary, if the SPDT switch is on, device A will be on, and device B will be on. Therefore, we can know that no matter what state the SPDT switch is in, only one device will be turned on.
Basic knowledge of SPDT switch structure:
pole: is the controller inside the switch. We usually use unipolar, bipolar, etc. to show how many independent circuits are controlled by a switch.
Throwing: Throwing means a circuit that will be controlled by a rod. We usually use single throw, double throw, etc. to show how much of a circuit one pole will control.
Open: If the rod is disconnected from a throw, the state of that throw is called open or open.
Closed: If the rod is attached to a throw, the state of that throw is called the closed state or off.
NO (normally open): If the throw circuit is disconnected by default (when the pole is not subjected to external force), the throw circuit is called a normally open circuit (NO circuit, N/O circuit), and the switch will be called normally open switch (NO switch, N/O switch).
NC (Normally Closed): If the throwing circuit is connected to the pole by default (when the pole is not subjected to external force), the throwing circuit is called a normally closed circuit (NC circuit, N/C circuit), and the switch will be called a normally closed circuit close switch (NC switch, N/C switch).
SPDT Power Relay Feature:
