What factors affect the transmittance of PC board?
The transmittance of PC board is affected by the following factors:
Raw materials:
Purity: PC board made of high purity polycarbonate raw materials, less internal impurities, less light scattering and absorption, and high light transmittance. If the raw material contains impurities, additives or the proportion of recycled materials is too high, it will reduce the light transmittance.
Brand and quality: Different brands and quality grades of polycarbonate raw materials, the production process and quality control are different, and the light transmittance of PC board produced by high-quality raw materials is more guaranteed.
Production process:
Extrusion process: Improper control of temperature, pressure and other parameters during the extrusion process will cause stress, bubbles or uneven structure inside the PC board, affecting the light transmittance. The stable and accurate extrusion process can ensure the uniform structure of the plate and improve the light transmittance.
Molding process: If the cooling speed is too fast or too slow, it may lead to changes in the crystallinity of the PC board, affecting the optical performance and transmittance. Proper forming process can make PC plate have good optical uniformity.
Thickness: Generally speaking, as the thickness of the PC board increases, the propagation path of the light in the board becomes longer, the probability of being absorbed and scattered increases, and the light transmission rate decreases. However, the influence of thickness on light transmittance is not linear, and the change of light transmittance may not be obvious within a certain thickness range.
Surface treatment:
Flatness: PC board surface flatness is high, light reflection and refraction law, high light transmittance. The surface is uneven, scratched or corrugated, which will scatter light and reduce light transmittance.
Coating: Anti-ultraviolet coating, wear-resistant coating, etc., on the surface of the PC board, if the coating quality is poor or the thickness is not uniform, it may affect the light transmittance. Some special coatings will also intentionally adjust the transmittance of light, such as anti-reflection coating can improve the transmittance.
Color: PC board transparent, opal, blue and other colors. Transparent PC board has the highest light transmittance, color PC board due to the addition of color masterbatch, will absorb some light, light transmittance is relatively low. The darker the color, the more light is absorbed and the lower the transmittance.
Use environment:
Ultraviolet radiation: long-term exposure to ultraviolet light, PC board aging, molecular structure changes, yellowing, cracking and other phenomena, decreased light transmittance.
Temperature and humidity: Extreme temperature and humidity conditions may affect the physical properties of the PC board, causing it to expand, contract, or deform, thereby affecting the internal structure and light transmittance.
