Applications:

Before applying any protective coatings, proper surface preparation is crucial. Surfaces should be free of any loose scale, rust, or foreign matter. According to SSPC SP2 “Hand Tool Cleaning” or SP3 “Power Tool Cleaning”, the surfaces should be prepared accordingly. Another option for surface preparation is a high-pressure water wash that ranges from 3,000 - 7,000 psi (20.68 - 48.26 MPa).

To begin the application process, a thin film of petroleum paste should be applied. After applying the paste, the tape should be spirally wrapped with a 55% overlap. It is important to press air pockets out while wrapping and smooth out all lap seams.

In some cases, irregular surfaces such as valves and flanges may require the use of Petroleum Filler Mastic or Profiling Mastic. PVC tape is then applied as an outerwrap to provide mechanical protection to the surface.
