Applications:

Prior to application of protective coatings, the surfaces must be prepared by removing any loose scale, rust or other foreign matter. This can be done through hand tool cleaning, power tool cleaning, or high pressure water washing. For hand tool cleaning, the surface is scraped and wire brushed to remove loose material, then wiped clean. For power tool cleaning, a power tool is used to remove heavy rust and to polish the surface. High pressure water washing is a suitable alternative, using water pressure between 3,000 and 7,000 psi.

After surface preparation, a thin film of petroleum paste should be applied. The tape should then be spirally wrapped with a 55% overlap, making sure to press air pockets out and smooth all lap seams. For irregular surfaces like valves and flanges, Petroleum Filler Mastic or Profiling Mastic may be required. To ensure mechanical protection, PVC tape should be applied as an outerwrap.
