Human Machine Interface (HMI) or graphic operator interface or also often called touch screen is used to monitor, operate and control machines or processes in a factory. In the world of automation industry, before using the touch screen, we must first create an application (project) according to the desired function.
The application/project can contain: graphics or pictures to be displayed, execution orders such as push buttons on/off, auto/manual, alarm reset and so on, data data to be monitored/controlled/log, Parameter Settings (production) such as setting temperature, motor rpm and so on, alarms, Trend graph, reports and so on.
HMI or touch screen applications are generally not directly related to the controlled equipment but through an intermediary data server, the data server can be in the form of an OPC (OLE for Process Control) program or a special direct driver program made specifically for one particular controller/PLC, inverter, temperature controllers, servo drives etc.
