The special low-speed high-power permanent magnet drive system for belt conveyors is a high-efficiency and energy-saving direct-drive electric drive system, which directly drives the load equipment. Different from the traditional asynchronous motor, the selection of the system depends on the actual equipment speed range and the equipment load torque. The specific selection rules are as follows:

Determine the motor speed range according to the belt speed and roller outer diameter of the belt conveyor, to select the motor drive system whose speed range is not less than and closest to the actual demand. The standard rated speed is 0~60r/min, 0~75r/min, 0~90r/min, and other speed ranges can be adjusted and customized according to the actual requirements of customers.

Confirm the torque required by the belt conveyor first to select the appropriate permanent magnet drive system. The actual torque of the equipment can also be calculated according to the parameters of a traditional asynchronous motor and the speed ratio of the reducer.

Determine the rated voltage of the motor. The common voltage of the motor under the torque of 30000N.m is 380V, 660V, and 1140V. The motor voltage above the torque of 30000N.m is 1140V, 3300V, 6kV, and 10kV. Other voltage levels can be customized according to customer needs.

The motor cooling mode includes natural cooling, forced air cooling, and water cooling, which can be selected according to the customer's actual needs.

The motors can be designed and manufactured according to the technical parameters provided by users.

The special drive system is customized according to the operation characteristics of the belt conveyor. With advanced design concept and production processing technology and equipment, the low-speed high-power permanent magnet motor drive system has formed 315, 355, 400, 500, and 560 five Frame sizes, with torque ranges 3000 N · m ~ 100000 N · m, a series products of more than 120 specifications, widely applied in the port, mining machinery and other fields.

The products adopt the latest electromagnetic program and structural design, with characteristics of energy-saving, efficiency, small size, lightweight, high torque density, anti-demagnetization, easy installation, maintenance-free, and high cost-performance ratio. The products are suitable for a variety of low-speed high-power belt transmission equipment.

Advantages:

  • This motor has a low torque ripple so it can generate constant torque. Also, it has the ability to maintain full torque at low speeds.
  • It’s a rotor magnet made by using a permanent magnet so this motor has high efficiency. Because its rotor hasn’t any coil heat generation is less.
  • The smaller size and less coil make a high power density. So it makes high speed at a low noise level. The heat transfer is also better, and the cooling system is simple.
  • The Permanent magnet synchronous motor does not have any brushes so it's easy to install and has a low maintenance cost.
  • It has only stator winding and no brushes so its heat generation is low compared with the brush motor.
  • It may offer a smaller size for more compact mechanical packages. So permanent magnet motors are highly useful for industrial tasks.
  • Don’t need an extra DC power source for it. The AC supply is provided on the stator and the permanent magnets are on the rotor.

Disadvantages:

  • Its rotor has constant magnetic but it needs a variable magnetic field so these motors want to variable frequency power source to start. Permanent magnet synchronous motors require a drive to operate it cannot run without a driver.
  • Basically two methods of controlling motors there are armature current controlling and field current controlling. But in this type of motor, we can change only the stator current. There is only one source in this motor's AC supply on the stator so the only way to control the motor is by controlling the AC supply on the stator. This needs a complex control system including power electronics and microcontrollers.
  • Permanent magnet motor solutions tend to need a higher initial cost than AC induction motors so more difficult to start up than AC induction motors.
  • There is a risk of demagnetization of the poles which may be caused by a large armature current. Magnetic cab also occurs due to excessive heating and also when the motor is overloaded for a long period of time.
  • Extra ampere Cannot be added to reduce the armature reaction. The magnetic field of the PMDC motor is preset at all times, even when the motor is not being used.
