Manufacture
1) Steelmaking Practice The steel shall be killed.
2)The tubes shall be made by the seamless process andshall be either hot-finished or cold-finished, as specified.

Heat Treatment:Hot- finished tubes need not be heat treated. Cold-finished tubes shall be given a subcritical anneal, a full anneal,or a normalizing heat treatment after the final cold finishingprocess.

Surface Condition:If pickling or shot blasting or both are required, thisshall be specifically stated in the order.

Heat Treatment:
1)Cold-drawn tubes shall be heat treated after the finalcold-draw pass at a temperature of 1 200F [640C] or higher toensure ductility satis factory for rolling into tube sheets and tomeet mechanical properties as specified.

2)If stress -relief anneal of the U-bends is specified, theanneal shall consist of heating the bent portion within a rangeof 1100 to 1200F [585 to 640C].


Mechanical Tests Required:
1)Flattening Test One flattening test shall be made onspecimens from each end of two tubes selected from each lot(see Note l) or fraction thereof.

2)Flaring Test One flaring test shall be made on speci-mens from each end of two tubes selected from each lot (seeNote l) or fraction thereof. These tubes shall be selected apartfrom those used for the flattening test.

3)Hardness I Test Brinell or Rockwell hardness testsshall be made on specimens from two tubes from each lot. Theterm lot applies to all tubes prior to cutting, of the samenominal diameter and wall thickness which are produced fromthe same heat of steel. When final heat treatment is in abatch-type furnace, a lot shall include only those tubes of thesame size and the same heat which are heat treated in the samefurnace charge. When the final heat treatment is in a continuousfurnace, a lot shall include all tubes of the same size and heat,heat treated in the same furnace at the same temperature, timeat heat, and furnace speed.

4)Hydrostatic Test .Each tube shall be subjected to thehydrostatic pressure test, or instead of this test, a nondestruc-tive test may be used when specified by the purchaser.
