Cargo containers have also been used widely by military forces as makeshift shelters. they have been used in this way since the first gulf war and are still being used in this way today.

Many people may ask ‘why are there so many spare shipping containers?’ Well the truth of this is, that over recent years, there has been a HUGE decrease in the export of manufactured goods from countries such as The United States and the United Kingdom. meaning that more products are being shipped FROM Asia, to these countries. Many times these containers would have to be shipped back, empty and at great expense. so more often than not, it is cheaper to buy new containers in Asia, rather than shipping used cargo containers back. This leaves a huge abundance of idle containers.

In recent years, architects and laypeople (we normal people) have designed and created many storage container homes, office buildings and even small villages from these idle and wasted containers.
