DB ( Dumbbell ) Type Silicon Carbide
Silicon carbide (SiC) heating element is a remarkable non-metallic heating component that comes in rod-shaped or tubular forms. This high-temperature electric heating element is crafted with great care. The main material used is ultra pure green hexagonal silicon carbide. This material is processed by being made into billets and silicon crystals at an extremely high temperature of 2400 °C. Such a high-temperature treatment ensures the formation of a durable and efficient heating element.
In an oxidizing atmosphere, the SiC heating element can operate at a temperature as high as 1450 °C. This is a significant temperature range that makes it suitable for a wide variety of high-temperature applications. Moreover, it has a continuous service life that can reach 2000 hours. This long service life is a testament to its quality and durability.
Dumbbell shaped components with enlarged cold ends were among the earliest designs for heating elements. Initially, these were designed to be overly large in order to increase the cross-section of the cold end. By doing so, the resistance could be reduced, and consequently, the operating temperature of the cold end could be lowered. This design was a practical solution in the early days to address the issue of high cold end temperatures.
However, with the advancement of technology, modern dumbbell components have evolved. They now use advanced technology to maintain terminal cooling. The lower resistance of the cold end material reduces its electrical resistivity during the manufacturing process. As a result, there is no longer a need for oversized cold ends. Non dumbbell or ED type components have emerged as viable alternatives that can replace dumbbell components. These newer components offer improved performance and efficiency while also being more space-efficient.
