The working principle of the reverse osmosis system (RO) is to filter out dissolved solids and impurities in the water by applying pressure to make water molecules pass through a semipermeable membrane. The specific process is as follows:
Pressure drive: The reverse osmosis system uses a high-pressure pump to pressurize the raw water to a pressure of 6-20 kg, so that the water can penetrate the reverse osmosis membrane with a pore size of only 0.0001 micron under pressure.
The role of the semipermeable membrane: The reverse osmosis membrane is a selective permeable membrane that only allows water molecules to pass through, while preventing impurities such as dissolved salts, particles, and bacteria from remaining on the water supply side of the membrane.
Osmosis direction: Under natural conditions, water molecules will flow from the dilute solution side to the concentrated solution side, forming osmotic pressure. By applying a sufficiently large pressure on the concentrated solution side, water molecules can flow in the reverse direction. This process is called reverse osmosis.
Filtration effect: The water passing through the reverse osmosis membrane becomes produced water, while the water containing impurities is discharged as concentrated water.
The application areas of the reverse osmosis system include seawater desalination, brackish water desalination, water softening treatment, etc. It has the advantages of low energy consumption, no pollution and simple operation, and is one of the most advanced membrane separation technologies at present.
The structure of the reverse osmosis membrane includes end caps at both ends, a central tube, an O-ring, a reverse osmosis membrane and an inlet/product water separation grid. Multiple reverse osmosis membranes and the product/inlet grids are overlapped and wound on the central tube to form an integral rolled reverse osmosis composite membrane.
