SUM22 Free Cutting Steel Bar Bright Round Bar AISI/SAE1215

SUM22 is a free cutting structural steel, which is a type of steel that is easy to be cut by (turning, milling, pulling, planing, drilling, etc.). It is also called steel for automatic machine tool processing, referred to as automatic steel for short. SUM22 belongs to lead sulfur composite free cutting structural steel. In lead free cutting steel, lead is distributed in the steel as tiny elemental metal particles and does not solidly melt in the steel. During the cutting process, strong friction occurs between the tool and the workpiece, causing the lead particles in the steel to precipitate in a molten state, which plays a lubricating role in improving the cutting performance of the steel, making the steel chips finely fragmented, reducing tool wear, and ultimately extending tool life. Compared with non lead containing steel, the cutting performance of lead containing steel can be improved by 20 to 50%, while the mechanical properties and heat treatment properties remain basically unchanged, and there is no impact on cold and hot workability and weldability. Lead free cutting steel has been widely used in the manufacture of precision instrument parts, automotive parts, and important parts of various types of machinery. However, lead free cutting steel has low contact fatigue, so it is not suitable for gears, bearings, and other components that bear high fatigue stress loads. SUM22 has a tendency to be replaced by it. Its cutting performance is also excellent. Suitable for more stringent situations where SUM22 cannot be used.
