• Phase change material (PCM) refers to a substance that changes its state and provides latent heat while maintaining a constant temperature. The process of transforming physical properties is called a phase change process, during which the phase change material will absorb or release a large amount of latent heat.
• The process of transforming a substance from one phase to another. The uniform part in a material system with identical physical and chemical properties and distinct interfaces with other parts is called a phase. Corresponding to the three states of solid, liquid, and gas, substances have solid phase, liquid phase, and gas phase. Our most common phase change material is water, which changes from liquid to solid (freezes) when the temperature drops to 0°C.
• When the temperature is above 0°C, water changes from solid to liquid (dissolved). The larger the quantity (volume) of ice, the longer the dissolution process takes. This is the most typical example of phase change materials.
