Precision Metal Steel Cast Iron Aluminum Zinc Alloy Die Casting Services
Description Of Die Casting
Die Casting is a kind of metal casting process in which molten metal is forced into a mold (or die) under high pressure to create a part. It is commonly used to produce complex shapes with high accuracy and smooth surface finishes.
Die casting generally goes through the following steps:
Mold Creation: A mold (die) is made from two halves, typically made of hardened steel. These dies are precisely machined to the desired shape of the part.
Melting the Metal: The metal, usually aluminum, zinc, magnesium, or copper, is melted in a furnace. These metals are chosen for their fluidity and ability to fill detailed molds.
Injection of Molten Metal: The molten metal is injected into the die under extremely high pressure (typically between 1,000 and 20,000 psi), forcing it to fill the cavity of the mold quickly and completely. This allows for the creation of intricate details and thin-walled parts.
Cooling and Solidification: After the molten metal is injected, the die is cooled, and the metal solidifies in the shape of the mold.
Ejection of the Part: Once the metal has cooled and solidified, the mold is opened, and the part is ejected. The part may require some post-processing, such as trimming, to remove any excess material or flash (the thin layer of metal that escapes the mold during injection).
