Rail anchors are used for fastening systems where additional anti-creep arrangements are required. Anchors are made of rolled steel bars of varying cross-sections and in various shapes. When pushed into the track, the rail anchors firmly grip the track and when setting sleepers, resist the longitudinal movement of the track caused by passing trains.
The rail anchor should be located on the gauge side of the rail base against the same tie face on the opposing rail.
The rail anchor must hold the rail base tightly and securely and fully support the rail tie face.
When the bearing of the rail anchor to the tie is disturbed, a new rail anchor and rail tie will be required.
The rail anchor cannot be moved by driving along the rail.
When applying the anchor, the rail should be kept straight.

Proper maintenance and replacement of track anchoring devices is also critical to the long-term stability and safety of railroad tracks. Track anchors should be inspected periodically for signs of wear, damage, or looseness. Any loose or damaged track anchors should be replaced immediately to prevent accidents and ensure track stability.
When performing maintenance and replacement of track anchoring devices, the following steps should be taken:
Periodic inspection of track anchors: Track anchors should be inspected periodically for signs of wear, damage, or looseness. These inspections should be performed at least once a year and more frequently in high traffic areas.
Replace damaged or loose track anchors: Any loose or damaged track anchors should be replaced immediately to prevent accidents and ensure track stability. Rail anchors that no longer fit tightly to the rail bed should be moved and re-hammered or replaced.
Maintain proper torque: During installation and replacement, track anchors must be tightened according to the manufacturer's specifications. Correct torque ensures that track anchors are held firmly against the track base and provide the necessary stability and security.
