ASTM A252 submerged arc welded steel pipe is divided into three grades based on its mechanical properties: Grade 1, Grade 2 and Grade 3. These grades are primarily based on two key mechanical properties: tensile strength and yield strength. In piling applications, these properties are particularly important as they directly affect the strength and durability of the pipe.
Although Grade 1 steel pipe has the lowest yield strength and tensile strength, ASTM A252 Grade 3 double submerged arc welding exhibits superior mechanical properties that are significantly better than the other two grades. Its tensile strength is as high as about 456 MPa, and its yield strength is also about 310 MPa. These high strength properties make Grade 3 steel pipes ideal for piling operations where strong structural requirements are required.
