Stainless Steel Candle Filter & Basket Filter Applied In Ballast Water Treatment
Optimized plain dutch weaves (ODW) from JUMAO are used as filtration meshes in systems for the filtration of ballast water in marine technology.
Use of specially developed ODW metal meshes allows the strict requirements in terms of filtration quality to be met, while also handling the highly corrosive environment. The good regenerability of the wire mesh and the use of high-alloy materials such as duplex, super duplex or nickel-based materials allow long and continuous operation of the cartridge filters.
Applications to larger ships with higher flow-rates could become feasible with design improvements to today’s filter technology. This chapter describes current uses of filtration on ships, types of filtration proposed for the ballast treatment application, performance evaluations of filtration as a ballast treatment, filtration as a component in compound treatment systems, pore size considerations, and the merits of filtration versus cyclonic separation as a primary treatment method.
