As always, trying them on your foot is a good idea, especially for sandals or sandal type of shoes that are likely to stretch. For example, espadrilles often become looser with wearing- the fabric upper stretches a bit. The sandals shown this year, with various ribbons and stripes of fabric, braid or tassels were prone to stretching, but from my wearing of them, less than an upper made of one piece of fabric. I think that was probably due to the lines of stitching sewing the straps together.
Sandals with leather straps for the uppers will also stretch, though this seems to be mainly stretch in the direction of conforming to your foot.
As long as we are on the topic of footwear, pay attention to fit when buying any type of heel. It is often better to go up one half or even one whole size. This is due to your foot sliding down into the toe box while the wearer is trying desperately to balance on the ball of their foot. Even a wedge heel that is high will force the toes into the toe box, which can r3sult in some painful pinching or worse. Or, you could (as I have done) swear off shoes with any heel more than 1.5–2.0 inch heel. This simplifies life in so many ways.
