Description:

• Pocket Shear Vane Device is a practical equipment for determining the shear strength of cohesive soils. It is widely used to perform onsite measurements of excavations covering trenches and test pits, thin-wall or split core samples, by providing a quick and efficient method for shear strength measurements and it is also suitable for laboratory usage. • It is composed of 1 spring torque meter, 3 cross plate heads of different sizes and 1 Allen wrench. Three different plate heads are used, and the test range is 0 ~ 0.2, 0 ~ 1, 0 ~ 2.5kg/cm2. The dial scale is divided into 50 scales, and the test accuracy is better than 5%.Soil Testing Equipment

Specification:

l (standard) the scale range of 1 circle on the scale corresponding to the middle plate head is 0 ~ 1kg/ cm2, and the minimum scale is 0.02 kg/ cm2; In addition to the (standard) middle plate head, the range of the other two plate heads is 0 ~ 2.5kg/cm2 (small) and 0 ~ 0.2 kg/cm2 (large).

Notices:

This product includes a torsion meter and a small, medium (standard) and large plate head. When using a standard plate head, the dial reading is the actual shear strength value. When using small and large plate heads, the actual shear strength is obtained by multiplying the dial reading by 2.5 and 0.2 respectively.

Operation:

1. Hold the handshake of the instrument and turn the pointer anticlockwise (with fingers) to the 0 position of the alignment dial

2. Select samples with flat surface and appropriate size (generally, the area diameter of soil sample is not less than 3 times of the diameter of the plate head used).

3. Estimate the shear strength of the soil sample, and then select a suitable plate head (generally, the standard plate head can be used for test first), place the plate head perpendicular to the soil surface, and press the soil sample below the depth of the blade teeth of the plate head.

Keep proper vertical pressure, rotate the handshake clockwise at the rate of 5 ~ 10 seconds / cycle until the soil is sheared and destroyed.

Tip: once the soil is cut, the pointer on the dial will remain unchanged.

4. After the soil is destroyed by shear, slowly release the spring torque, that is, slowly pull out the instrument. Before manual reset (i.e. step 1), the dial reading shown by the pointer is the maximum shear strength value (i.e. soil shear strength).
