TPE Infill Granule vs. SBR

• Raw Material

SBR: Recycled tyres

Since SBR is manufactured from recycled materials (principally old car tyres) some variation in quality cannot entirely be ruled out. Depending on the length of time the original material was used, it may become brittle after relatively short time. Because SBR was originally manufactured for a different purpose, this granulate’s PAH and zinc content are extremely variable and may be quite high.

TPE: Yes

SBR: No

The thermoplastic properties of TPE enable it to be recycled.

At the end of the life span, TPE can be recycled by heating up the material up to the melting temperature of the hard thermoplastic segments ( ＞180℃ ) ；then, the total material mixture becomes viscous and therefore the material can be processed and 100% recycled. By cooling the material the co-ordination of the plastic segments is formed again and the material becomes elastic again .

• Environmental-friendly and Safe

TPE: Yes

SBR: No

In a sports field , players are in direct contact with the infill , including skin contact and breathing . Therefore, the infill should be harmless and free of heavy metal .

In a rainy day, rain is in direct contact with the infill which will leach into the ground . Harmful infill may pollute the ground and the ground water .

TAIHUI doesn’t contain harmful material , while SBR's PAH may be quite high .

• Bad Smell

TPE: No

SBR: Yes

SBR releases bad odour which causes uncomfortableness and headache, bad odour becomes a problem especially in summer time.

• Colour

TPE : any colour

SBR: black.

• Heat absorption

TPE: low

SBR: higher

TAIHUI infill material can lower the temperature at summer weather conditions to the level of system without infill material

• Produce Dust

TPE: No

SBR: yes

Crumbed SBR easily becomes tiny chips which is inhaled through respiratory system ,bad for lungs .

• Compaction

TPE : Less tendency

SBR : Very easy

TPE in cylindrical and uniform , this infill has less tendency towards compaction and therefore stays loose. Even after years, the player’s shoes still find good grip ,in combination with good rotation .

• Fire retardant

TPE: available

SBR: No

For indoor fields, fibres can catch fire. But TPE can be added with fire retardant solvent to resist fire and keep safe . SBR cann’t do like this .
