sch 40 or schedule 40 is a standard of the wall thickness of steel pipes in accordance with ANSI. sch40s stands for strong, so pipes with a larger thickness.A 4 inches (100 mm) Schedule 40 pipe has an outside diameter of 4.500 inches (114.30 mm), a wall thickness of 0.237 inches (6.02 mm), giving a bore of 4.026 inches (102.26 mm).A schedule 80 stainless steel pipes has thicker walls as compared to other schedule pipes. However, similar to other schedule pipes these sch 80 pipes are also used in construction work. They are mainly used in applications where the pipes have to be exposed.
