Introduction
S31254, also 254SMO is a super Austenitic Stainless Steel. It is designed with a combination of impact toughness resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking, and pitting and crevice corrosion with strength that is twice that of the stainless steel 300 series.
A large number of field experiments and extensive use experience show that even at slightly higher temperatures, S31254 stainless steel pipe also has a high resistance to crevice corrosion in seawater, and only a few types of stainless steel have this performance. The corrosion resistance of S31254 stainless steel tubes in acidic and oxidizing halide solutions such as those required for paper bleaching production can be combined with the corrosion resistance of nickel-based alloys in titanium alloys.
The S31254 stainless steel tube has a high nitrogen content, so its mechanical strength is higher than other types of austenitic stainless steel. In addition, it has high ductility and impact strength and good weldability.
The high molybdenum content of S31254 stainless steel pipe enables it to have a high oxidation rate during annealing, resulting in a rougher surface than ordinary stainless steel after pickling. However, this has no adverse effect on the corrosion resistance of the steel
