Unlike conventionally used stainless steel alloys, the term super is associated with Alloy F255, due to its highly alloyed chemistry. Businesses that belong to the pulp & paper industry as well as textile industries use this ASTM A789 UNS 31260 Duplex Stainless Steel Pipe because it offers resistance to corrosion. The corrosion resistance properties of this alloy are significantly much higher in comparison to conventional stainless steel. The fore mentioned industries usually use high amounts of corrosive chlorine compounds in the form of bleaches or scouring agents. Chlorine solutions stress steels, as a result of which, the stainless steel component may fail. Such problems are deemed dangerous in areas involving the transportation of highly volatile substances including gases. Gases creep out of the cracked pipes and the leak proves to be fatally dangerous to individuals working in the area. However, the introduction of this alloy meant that the Duplex Steel UNS S31260 EN 1.4410 Pipe could be used across the transportation of said substances, without fear of failure and leaks.
Ferralium 225 is an alloy that resists cavitation. Cavitation occurs when there is a rapid change of force in a liquid. In applications, cavitation results in the development of small vapor-filled cavities in those zones where the pressure tends to be comparatively lower. Since this material is resistant to cavitation, Alloy F255 UNS 31260 Pipes are well suited for use in low pressure applications. A common occurrence in pipes is abrasion, during the transportation of liquid or gaseous media. A high velocity transport causes friction between the walls of a pipe and the media being transported across. Abrasion to a greater degree is also responsible for the failure of the pipe. However, since the ASME SA 789 UNS 31260 Welded Pipe resists abrasion, coupled with its high yield strength, the durability of said pipes is much higher. One of the more popular characteristics of this alloy is perhaps its yield strength. The yield strength of UNS S32550 grade F61 Seamless Pipe is almost two times higher than that of standard austenitic alloys including carpenter 20 and duplex stainless steel 2205. At a temperature of 40°C, the ASTM A790 UNS 31260 Pipe exhibits pitting resistance much higher than that of duplex stainless steel 2205.
