The applied span of truss bridges is generally 50 to 110 meters, and the Quebec Bridge (Canada; 1917) is the longest truss bridge in the world, with a span length of 549 meters. Stress characteristics
(1) The piers and columns are rigidly connected, and the beams are unloaded due to the bending resistance of the piers. The whole system is a compression-bending structure and also has a thrust structure.
(2) The clearance under the bridge of the steel truss bridge is larger than that of the arch bridge, and a smaller span can be constructed under the same clearance requirements.
(3) The construction of steel truss bridges is more complicated, and is generally used for overpass bridges and overpasses in cities or highways with small spans.
(4) Steel truss bridges constructed with prestressed concrete and cantilever construction have become one of the competition schemes for long-span bridges.
