ASTM B163 This specification covers seamless tubes of nickel and nickel alloys, for use in condenser and heat-exchanger service.
Alloy 600 offers good corrosion resistance in many media with superior oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures.It is commonly referred to by the tradename Inconel 600 and the universal designation UNS N06600.
Distinctive Characteristic
Corrosion Resistance
Alloy 600 has outstanding corrosion resistance imparted by the dual corrosion fighting power of chromium and nickel. What's more, Alloy 600 exhibits good corrosion resistance in reducing acids, mildly oxidizing acids, high purity water, and other media. It is essentially immune to chloride stress corrosion cracking. But alloy 600 is not suitable for strong oxidizing acids such as hot nitric acid.
Elevated Temperature Resistance
Alloy 600 provides excellent oxidation resistance at temperatures up to 2150°F (1177°C).
Workablity
Alloy 600 has good hot and cold workability in the annealed condition. Hot-working should be done above 1600°F (871°C) to ensure adequate ductility, while cold work should be performed below 1200°F (649°C).

Alloy 600 same as the Monel 400, can be provided in the lower strength, annealed condition, or strengthened through the pilger process. Also it maintains excellent toughness even in the higher strength conditions and maintains toughness at cryogenic temperatures same as the Monel 400.

Alloy 600 is a versatile alloy that, in addition to being used in common applications such as the chemical processing industry, aerospace, food processing, electronics, oil and gas, and nuclear power, its high-temperature oxidation resistance also makes it suitable for power generation in thermal processing units , furnaces, incinerators and other high-temperature equipment.
