ASME SA516 Gr.70 Carbon Steel Baffle Plate For Heat Exchanger
Baffles are critical components in a variety of industrial systems, especially in equipment such as heat exchangers, boilers, and distillation columns. These plates are typically flat and strategically placed within a vessel and serve a variety of purposes. They are thin plates or disks that are strategically placed within the shell to direct the flow of fluid and enhance heat transfer efficiency. They promote turbulence and prevent the formation of stagnant zones.
Baffles guide the tubes during assembly, prevent flow-induced vibrations, and direct shell-side fluid to increase heat transfer. They must fit snugly within the shell to prevent fluid bypass. Baffles are stamped, perforated, or machined, and materials are selected to be compatible with the shell-side fluid to prevent corrosion. Precision manufacturing of tube holes ensures easy assembly and maintenance. In liquid applications, baffles typically occupy 20-30% of the shell diameter, while in gas applications they occupy 40-45%. Baffles are evenly spaced to reduce pressure drop and ensure uniform fluid velocity.
The effect of the baffle plate:
(1) Increase the flow velocity of the fluid in the shell side.
(2) Enhance turbulence intensity.
(3) Improve heat transfer efficiency.
(4) Support the heat exchange tube.
How are baffles being processed?
The machining process for baffles is the same as for tube sheets. Since a heat exchanger usually requires multiple baffles, they need to be assembled together and drilled at one time.
What materials can be processed for the baffle?
We can process a variety of materials according to customer requirements. Conventional materials are carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel and copper. Some customers require copper-nickel materials, and some customers require titanium materials.
