Stone paper has many advantages over plastic and conventional paper:

Wood-free – it is produced from limestone powder. Trees and plants, important sources of oxygen, are left standing.

Conserves resources I – the raw material used is a waste product from quarries. It does not require additional mining.

Conserves resources II – its production (a thermal process is used to fuse the stone powder with polyethylene resin, after which it is processed into webs) consumes much less energy and water than conventional paper.

Stable and tear-resistant – stone paper is much more resilient than paper made from wood fibres. And it is both water and fire-resistant. In consistency and possible uses, it is reminiscent of thin plastic.

Environmentally friendly – stone paper does not require chemical bleaches or acids to be whitened. It is naturally white.

Versatile – its smooth surface renders it suitable for offset, UV offset and digital printing.

In short, stone paper is an environmentally friendly, state-of-the-art alternative to both paper and conventional plastic. And thus, perfectly suited when a stable and resistant printing substrate is required.

For example, we print product tags on stone paper, therefore gradually reducing the use of plastic.

Stone paper was developed as an environmentally friendlier alternative to traditional wood pulp paper. Leftover stone from local industries is mixed with a small amount of recycled BPA-free plastic in a process that uses no water or chemicals and is powered by solar.

Points to note when using stone paper

1. What happens to different pens on this paper?
Ballpoints and gel pens will be absolutely fine! However, be wary of fountain pens and felt tips. Depending on the construction of the tip, you may need to alter your grip, angle, or how hard you press down. Since the paper has no grain direction, writing on the paper with the same force will be unnecessary.

2. Can I use a pencil and is it erasable?
Yes, of course. You’ll find that since there’s no fibers in stone paper, pencil marks erase much easier and unlike some low-quality papers, you can’t erase a hole into it. Be careful not to sharpen too much though, the pencil may grab onto the paper like piercing with a needle. We recommend a thickness like 0.7 or greater.

3. Do I need a special pen or pencil to write on stone paper?
Nope! We tried and tested pencils and pens with no issue. In fact, since the stone paper absorbs less ink than regular paper, it looks cleaner and has zero bleed-through. Our recommended pen is a good ol' fashioned ballpoint. They may seem like a boring choice but you'll understand why once you feel the glide of a ballpoint on our paper. We have found that some fountain pens may take longer to dry than ballpoints. However, you may need to alter your grip, angle, or how hard you press down.
