Stab-in Casing Float Collar And Float Shoe API or As required
The stab-in float collar and shoe technique is an advanced approach used in drilling operations for cementing larger diameter casings. This method involves directly inserting the drill pipe into either the float shoe or collar, allowing cement to be pumped through the drill pipe until it reaches the surface. To ensure precise cement placement, a wiper dart can be utilized to push the cement to the bottom of the drill pipe. Once this is accomplished, the drill pipe is raised, circulated to ensure proper cement distribution, and then removed from the wellbore.
It is important to highlight that when using the stab-in float collar and shoe method, substantial plugs are required to separate the cement from the drilling mud. These plugs, as well as any cement present in the casing, need to be drilled out. This technique is specifically designed for cementing larger diameter casings that are installed using drill pipes. Given the significant displacement volume associated with these larger casings, special considerations must be taken into account throughout the cementing process.
The Stab-in cementing technique offers a solution for reducing displacement volume and minimizing contamination during drilling operations. By utilizing a smaller diameter inner string of drill pipe, this method efficiently displaces cement, saving time in the drilling process.
To minimize the need for drill-out of cement inside the large casing, the Stab-in Shoe incorporates a plunger valve and displacement fluid in the drill pipe. This controlled approach ensures precise displacement and promotes better cement quality. The reduced interface between cement and drilling mud, along with high flow velocity in the drill pipe, helps minimize cement contamination. Additionally, the short pumping time eliminates the need for cement retarders.
A notable advantage of the Stab-in method is the reduction in cement volume. Unlike conventional displacement methods that require excess cement calculations, the Stab-in method only requires the volume of the drill pipe as excess cement, eliminating the need for large plugs.
Improved displacement accuracy and reduced drill-out requirements contribute to a decrease in net rig time. Circulating, pumping, and drill-out times are minimized, enhancing overall efficiency.
The Stab-in method also provides casing protection by confining cementing pressures to the drill pipe, similar to a squeeze job.
Stab-in cementing equipment is available in various sizes, ranging from 4-1/2" to 36". Moreover, the Stab-in cement Float Shoe & Collar can be customized with Double Valve and other combinations to meet specific requirements.
