The stab-in float collar and shoe method is an advanced technique employed in drilling operations to effectively cement casings with larger diameters. This approach involves directly inserting the drill pipe into either the float shoe or collar, enabling the pumping of cement through the drill pipe until it reaches the surface. To ensure precise placement, a wiper dart can be used to push the cement to the bottom of the drill pipe. Following this, the drill pipe is lifted, circulated to ensure proper distribution of the cement, and then extracted from the wellbore.
It is crucial to emphasize that when employing the stab-in float collar and shoe method, substantial plugs are required to separate the cement from the drilling mud. These plugs, along with any cement present in the casing, must be drilled out. This technique is specifically designed for cementing large diameter casings installed using drill pipes. Due to the significant displacement volume associated with these larger casings, special considerations should be taken into account throughout the cementing process to ensure its success.
