Workshop
The rotating potentiometer is actually a variable resistor, because its role in the circuit is to obtain the output voltage with a certain relationship to the input voltage (applied voltage), so called potentiometer. As shown in the schematic diagram below, a potentiometer (or trimmer resistor, etc.) with conventional pins (just a potentiometer with 3 pins) has a fixed resistance value at both ends, and a variable resistance value at the middle pin to either end. They are usually designed to maintain their properties no matter how long they are used. When a position sensor is used, potentiometers may be linear or rotary position sensors. The potentiometer outputs a voltage value proportional to the position of the slider along the variable resistor. Because temperature changes, wear, and dirt between the slider and the variable resistor can cause resistance changes, affecting the accuracy of the potentiometer.
