processing According to the characteristics of the material and the
feeding situation, the appearance and process performance of the material should generally
be tested before molding. The supplied materials often contain different degrees of moisture,
fluxes and other volatile low-molecular substances, especially the water content of TPR, which
has a tendency to absorb moisture, always exceeds the allowable limit for processing. Therefore,
it must be dried and the moisture content measured before processing. At high temperature, the
moisture content of the caster TPR is required to be below 5%, or even 2%~3%, so the vacuum
drying oven is commonly used to dry at 75℃~90℃ for 2 hours. The dried material must be properly
sealed and stored to prevent the material from reabsorbing moisture from the air and losing its drying
effect. For this reason, the use of a drying chamber hopper can continuously provide dry hot material
for the injection molding machine, which is beneficial to simplifying operations, maintaining
cleanliness, improving quality, Increasing the injection rate is beneficial. The charging amount of the
drying hopper is generally 2.5 times the hourly amount of the injection molding machine. SBC
based TPEs outperform most other caster TPR materials in color. As a result, they require less
color masterbatch to achieve a specific color effect, and the color produced is purer than other
caster TPRs. Generally speaking, the viscosity of the color masterbatch should be lower than that
of the caster TPR because the melt index of the caster TPR is higher than that of the color
masterbatch, which will facilitate the dispersion process and make the color distribution more
uniform. For SBS-based TPEs, polystyrene-based vehicles are recommended. Polypropylene (PP)
vehicle is recommended for harder SEBS based caster TPRs. For softer SEBS based casters TPR,
low density polyethylene or ethylene vinyl acetate copolymers are available. For softer varieties, PP
vehicle is not recommended as the hardness of the composite will be affected. For some overmolding
applications, the use of polyethylene (PE) vehicles may adversely affect adhesion to the substrate.
The cleaning barrel generally adopts the heating barrel cleaning method. The cleaning material
generally uses plastic raw materials (or plastic recycling materials). For caster TPR material, the
transition cleaning material can be replaced by the new material processed.
