Caster structure and characteristics
Steering center distance of support: the horizontal distance from the vertical line of rivet at the center
of KT foot wheel finger to the center of wheel core.
Installation height: refers to the vertical distance from the ground to the equipment installation position.
The installation height of casters refers to the maximum vertical distance from the caster base plate to
the edge of the wheel.
Turning radius: refers to the horizontal distance from the vertical line of the central rivet to the outer
edge of the tire. The appropriate spacing enables the caster to turn 360 degrees. Whether the
rotation radius is reasonable or not directly affects the service life of casters.
Driving load: the bearing capacity of casters when moving. It is also called dynamic load. The dynamic
load of casters varies due to different standards and factory test methods, as well as different wheel
materials. The key lies in whether the structure and quality of the support can resist impact and vibration.
Impact load: the instantaneous bearing capacity of casters when the equipment is impacted or vibrated
by the load.
Static load: the weight that casters can bear under static state. Generally, the static load shall be 5 ~ 6
times of the driving load [dynamic load], and the static load shall be at least 2 times of the impact load.
Steering: hard, narrow wheels are easier to turn than soft, wide wheels. Turning radius is an important
parameter of wheel rotation. Too short turning half force will increase steering difficulty, and too large
will lead to wheel shaking and shorten service life.
Driving flexibility: the factors affecting the driving flexibility of casters include: the structure of the support,
the selection of support steel, the size of the wheel, the type of wheel, bearings, etc. The larger the
wheel, the better the driving flexibility. On a smooth ground, hard, narrow wheels save labor than soft
wheels with flat edges. But on uneven ground, soft wheels can better protect equipment and shock
absorption.
