Inspired by classical portraits of Danish merchants sitting in Ming chairs, Wegner created a series of chairs including the elbow, arm and wishbone chair series that helped establish Denmark as an international leader of modern design.

The Kennedy chair is the piece of Hans Wegner furniture with the best-known story, as CBS bought this chair in 1960 for the legendary TV duel between Nixon and his rival Kennedy.The chair created so much interest that after the programme it was simply referred to as 'The Chair' by commentators and critics alike.

It has few hard edges and corners, has smooth and beautiful lines, exquisite details and elegant and simple shapes. The corners are generally processed into smooth curves, giving people a sense of closeness.
