According to the phase composition, titanium alloys can be divided into three types :α alloys,(α+β) alloys and β alloys, respectively represented by TA, TC and TB.
α alloys contain a certain amount of stable α phase elements and are mainly composed of α phase at equilibrium state. α alloy has small specific gravity, good thermal strength, good weldability and excellent corrosion resistance, the disadvantage is low strength at room temperature, usually used as heat and corrosion resistant materials. α alloys can be divided into all α alloys (TA7), nearly α alloys (Ti-8Al-1Mo-1V) and α alloys with a small amount of compounds (Ti-2.5Cu). ② (α+β) alloy contains a certain amount of stable α phase and β phase elements, and the microstructure of the alloy at equilibrium state is α phase and β phase. (α+β) alloy has moderate strength and can be strengthened by heat treatment, but its weldability is poor. (α+ β) alloy is widely used, and the output of Ti-6Al-4V alloy accounts for more than half of all titanium materials.
③ β alloy contains numerous elements that stabilize β phase and can retain all β phase at high temperature to room temperature. β alloys are usually classified into heat-treatable β alloys (metastable β alloys and near-metastable β alloys) and heat-stable β alloys. Heat-treatable β alloy has excellent plasticity in quenching state, and the tensile strength can reach 130 ~ 140kgf/mm2 through aging treatment. Beta alloys are usually used as high strength and toughness materials.
Benefits:
1. Toughness, light weight
2. High property of acid and alkali resistance
3. Bear high & low temperature, etc
