Air compressors have made life easier for people on countless fronts since the early days of automotive assembly. One of the greatest innovations was Air Conditioning, which made life easier for people in the humid depths of summer months.
A/C systems were soon incorporated into automobiles, which allowed families to commute and embark on vacations in greater comfort because temperatures inside of passenger compartments could now be lowered by at least 20° from the outdoor weather. So what does a car’s air compressor do? The air compressor makes the whole A/C process possible in vehicles.
Automobile air conditioning compressor composition
1. Compressor Housing: The compressor housing encloses all the internal components of the air conditioning compressor and provides support and protection.
2. Compressor Shaft Seal: The shaft seal prevents refrigerant and oil from leaking out of the compressor.
3. Swash Plate: The swash plate is connected to the compressor shaft and helps to regulate the movement of the pistons inside the compressor.
4. Piston Assembly: The piston assembly moves up and down within the cylinders of the compressor to compress the refrigerant gas.
5. Swash Plate Bearings: These bearings support the swash plate and allow it to rotate smoothly.
6. Cylinder Head: The cylinder head contains the reed valves and serves as the top cover of the compressor cylinders.
7. Reed Valves: Reed valves are located in the cylinder head and control the flow of refrigerant gas into and out of the compressor cylinders.
8. Suction and Discharge Ports: These ports enable the entry and exit of refrigerant gas into and out of the compressor cylinders.
9. Clutch Assembly: The clutch assembly engages and disengages the compressor from the engine, allowing the compressor to turn on and off as needed.
10. Electronic Control Module (ECM): The ECM monitors and controls the operation of the air conditioning compressor, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.
