AKD emulsion is one of the reactive neutral sizing agents, it can be used in the process of neutral paper making in factories directly. Paper can not only be endowed with predominant capability of water resistance, and soak capability of acid alkaline liquor.but also with ability of brim soaking resistance.
By using it can improve physical properties of paper, it has been widely used in producing various kind of paper, such as art base paper, electrostatic autographic transfer paper, double colloid paper, noncarbon paper, archival paper, photo base paper, yew base paper, stamp base paper, napkin, etc
Applications and Functions:
In the paper-making industry, AKD emulsion serves as a crucial additive, imparting exceptional water resistance to paper. This ensures the paper remains durable and resistant to penetration or damage when exposed to moisture.
Widely applied in diverse paper production, AKD emulsion is utilized in manufacturing various paper types, including:
Art base paper
Electrostatic autographic transfer paper
Double-coated paper
Carbonless copy paper
Archival paper
Photo base paper
Yew base paper
Stamp base paper
Napkin paper
Enhancing printability and ink performance, AKD emulsion optimizes paper surface properties, promoting superior ink adhesion. This results in sharper print clarity, richer color saturation, and improved ink absorption.
Reducing environmental impact and operational costs, the use of AKD emulsion in papermaking helps:
Lower white-water pollution levels
Decrease white-water treatment complexity and expenses
Minimize energy consumption
Improve the overall working environment

The product can be added directly to the thick pulp or, alternatively, added to the mixing chest after dilution. It can also be applied in tub-sizing following the drying of the previous paper layer. For normal sizing, the addition amount should range from 0.1% to 0.2% of the absolute dry pulp; for heavy sizing, it should be 0.3% to 0.4% of the absolute dry pulp. A double - retention system consisting of cationic starch and polyacrylamide should be used simultaneously. The cationic starch should be of the quaternary ammonium type, with a degree of substitution greater than 0.025%, and its usage should be 0.6% to 1.2% of the absolute dry pulp. The polyacrylamide has a molecular weight in the range of 3,000,000 - 5,000,000, a concentration of 0.05% - 0.1%, and its usage should be 100 ppm - 300 ppm. The pH value of the pulp should be maintained between 8.0 and 8.5.
