Description of Phosphor Bronze Wire Mesh


Tin-phosphorus bronze has higher corrosion resistance, wear resistance and no sparks when impacted. Used for medium-speed and heavy-load bearings, the maximum working temperature is 250℃. It has the characteristics of self-aligning, insensitivity to deflection, uniform bearing capacity of shaft, high bearing capacity, simultaneous radial load and self-lubrication without maintenance.

Tin-phosphorus bronze is a kind of alloy copper, which has good electrical conductivity, is not easy to heat up, ensures safety and has strong fatigue resistance.

Overview of the Phosphor bronze wire material


Phosphor bronze 6% A wire mesh (aka C519 phos bronze wire mesh) is a bronze alloy nominally comprised of 93.8% copper, 6% tin, and 0.2% phosphorus, with small additions of zinc (0.15%), iron (0.05%), and lead (0.025%). The 6% tin helps to increase its strength and resistance to corrosion, and 0.2% phosphorus helps to increase its stiffness and wear resistance. As such, phosphor bronze is used as opposed to 90-10 commercial bronze when weaving fine bronze meshes with small wire diameters (i.e. 200 mesh .0021″ dia phos bronze). C519 phos bronze wire mesh possesses a superior combination of strength and ductility compared to other brass (i.e. 65-35 yellow brass) and bronze (i.e. 90-10 commercial bronze) wire cloth materials. C519 phos bronze is stronger than C510 phos bronze, but weaker than C51980 phos bronze. Some characteristics of phosphor bronze 6% A wire cloth which dictate its use are:

  • Most used phosphor bronze alloy for wire cloth.
  • Stronger than C510 phos bronze, weaker than C51980 phos bronze.
  • Superior strength and ductility vs. brass and commercial bronze alloys.
