Pneumatic Fenders Yokohama Type With High Energy Absorption
Pneumatic Fenders Description
Pneumatic fenders have become the ideal ship to ship protection bumpers against collision among STS, STQ, STB since it was developed in 1958. With the development of ship technology, these pneumatic fenders are used widely in ship-to-ship transfer operations and ship mooring and berthing operations.
Pneumatic fenders are classified into three types, including sling type, hydro-pneumatic type, and chain and tire net type. Each type plays a critical role in protecting the safety of marine operations.
Fully compliant with the ISO17357 standard, Jerryborg’s pneumatic fenders supply a variety of types and sizes to meet customer’s requests and different application conditions.
Pneumatic Fenders Features
1. Safe and Reliable
Pneumatic fenders are made of several strong cord layers to enable them to be pressure-resistant and puncture-resistant. The pneumatic fenders whose diameter is over 2.5m are equipped with a safety valve to release the air inside in case they're overpressured. The diagram below shows the data variations at different percentage compressions.
2. Advantage Under Severe Weather Conditions
Under normal circumstances, the ship movement caused by high and long-period waves or strong wind will bring repeated compression and shearing forces on the fender and make it easier to be fatigue and damage. However pneumatic fenders are strong enough to resist severe weather conditions, the reaction force increases slowly compared with solid fenders and won’t easily reach the maximum.
Pneumatic Fenders Classification
Pneumatic fenders are produced with two initial pressure ratings, which are pneumatic 50 (P50, initial internal pressure 50kPa) and pneumatic 80 (P80, initial internal pressure 80kPa).
Pneumatic fenders are mainly classified into three types as follows:
1. Pneumatic Ship Fender with Chain and Tyre Net
With chain and tire net covering the fender body, the pneumatic fenders can reduce the damage of friction and abrasion caused by direct contact. Therefore it’s widely used in places with complicated and unstable tide variation, such as ship-to-ship(STS) and ship-to-dock(STD) operations. In addition, as for the protective tire, Jerryborg offers four types of tires with different sizes and thicknesses for customers to choose from.
2. Sling Type Pneumatic Ship Fender
Sling type pneumatic fenders will be connected with a guy chain or guy rope with a lifting device on both ends.
3. Hydro Pneumatic Type Ship Fender
Hydropneumatic fender is usually used as a bumper with submarines and other semi-submersible platforms. It can be installed vertically in the water cause it’s filled with air and water inside and equipped with a counterweight.
All these pneumatic fenders mentioned above are available usually in black, the color is also customized upon your request. Jerryborg offers pneumatic fenders with various sizes in diameter ranging from 500mm to 4500mm, length ranging from 1000mm to 9000mm.
Pneumatic Fenders Structure
① Outer rubber layer
Pneumatic fenders are covered by the outer layer made of natural rubber. This rubber compound is strong enough to protect the inner layer and synthetic-cord layer from the damage of external forces and severe weather conditions due to its high elasticity and abrasion resistance.
② Synthetic-tire-cord layer
The Synthetic-tire-cord layer is made of synthetic-tire-cord fabrics, compared with synthetic canvas fabric and synthetic belt fabric, this reinforcement layer performs better in fatigue-resistance and pressure-holding.
③ Inner rubber layer
The inner layer is designed to seal the air inside the fender.
